New Family Lawyer strengthens BHP Law Team

31st Jan 2012

Family legal services in south west Durham are expanding with the appointment of a new solicitor at BHP Law.

Rebecca Stephenson has joined the team based at the regional law firm’s office in Newton Aycliffe town centre.

Her background is in family and criminal law, adding to the experience of others within the Aycliffe team.

Rebecca, who has joined from another firm in her home town of Consett, said: “As mine is a new role at BHP Law, I’m not taking over existing cases so am available now for anyone who needs legal advice over separation, divorce, financial matters and the custody of children.”

Rebecca, 30, studied law at Hull University and York College of Law before training with a firm in Newcastle and specialising in family law at her previous practice.

“I’m really pleased to have joined BHP Law, which is a large, regional firm with an excellent reputation. The firm is among the Top 200 law practices nationally and offers a wide range of services to many families and businesses across the region,” she added.

Rebecca is currently studying to obtain higher rights of audience, which will allow her to represent clients at Crown Court, and is seeking police station accreditation so she can be called in as a duty solicitor to represent people who have been arrested.

Eligible clients can receive Legal Help through BHP Law as the firm has a contract to act for clients who qualify based upon their income and other criteria.

Rebecca added: “There has been talk of Legal Help stopping for matrimonial matters but at the moment nothing has changed so people should still enquire.”

BHP Law also has offices in Darlington, North Shields, Stockton, Durham, Newcastle and Halifax.
