Apprentice of the Year award for BHP's Callum Ellsbury

FOOTBALL mad Callum Ellsbury has kicked off his career in style after winning a top award for his efforts.

The 19-year-old administration assistant with regional legal practice BHP Law has become Apprentice of the Year for Business & Administration, an accolade awarded by South West Durham Training Centre.

A Newcastle United season ticket holder for the past five years, Callum also plays on the right wing for his local side.

With the help of South West Durham Training, he secured a job with BHP Law as an administration assistant and would now love to train as a legal executive.

“I was really pleased to win; I didn’t expect it,” said Bishop Auckland-born Callum, who attended Woodham Community Technology College and lives in Aycliffe Village.

“I am really happy as it shows I am doing something right. It is also good for the firm and it has made me think that I can do well.”

When Callum isn’t watching and playing football he is busy at BHP Law’s Darlington office working in the post room, witnessing wills, logging and banking cheques and storing deeds.

“It’s a great firm to work for, very friendly and extremely professional,” he said. He also hopes he might be able to help his girlfriend Chloe, who is studying law at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington.

BHP Law partner and head of the wills trusts and probate team, Helen Biglin, said: “We are thrilled that Callum has secured this award which is richly deserved. He is a very conscientious, pleasant and willing member of staff with a great future ahead of him.”
