Legal Clinic

10th May 2010

FREE legal and financial planning advice is being offered to people in and around Darlington as part of a pioneering initiative launched by one of the region?s top law firms.

BHP Law has announced plans for a legal clinic to be held every Friday afternoon at its office in Faverdale from May 7.

The innovative move means people can call into the firm between noon and 6pm without an appointment to discuss their problems with qualified legal staff.
The clinics run from noon-6pm, there is no need for clients to make an appointment and there is no obligation to sign up for further advice.
The move is an expansion of an already successful afternoon legal clinic that the firm has been offering at its Newcastle Quayside office since autumn last year.
Legal professionals at BHP Law in Faverdale will be on hand to discuss a range of matters including family issues including divorce, separation and childcare; personal injury claims; making a will; lasting power of attorney; and estate planning.
Independent financial advisors from the firm will also be on hand to advise on money matters including financial planning, savings and investments.
The clinic has been timed to allow working people to drop in during lunch hours or just after they have left work.
BHP is renowned as one of the North East’s most respected law firms with a heritage of traditional legal practice dating back to 1835.
It is a multi-disciplinary company offering an array of services from offices in Durham Teesside, Darlington and Halifax as well as Newcastle, with more than 200 professional and support staff.
Helen Biglin, a Partner in BHP Law and head of the wills, trust and probate team, said: “The clinic is a new development for the Darlington office and will give people the chance to talk to our experienced legal professionals about important issues.
“By staying open until 6pm it should prove especially useful for people who may not otherwise have the chance to speak to a solicitor or an independent financial advisor during their working day.
“We are confident that the scheme will be a success in Darlington and it is our intention in due course to roll it out to our offices in Durham, Stockton, North Shields and Halifax.”
