Robin Wood Arrives at BHP

2nd Feb 2010

Two planning consultants are taking job sharing to extremes as they prepare to have twins.

Robin Wood has taken over his wife Katie’s role at BHP Develop, a division of BHP Law, while she is on maternity leave.

The first time parents are expecting their twins to arrive in the first week of February.

Robin, who is a consultant with his own planning practice, RP Wood Planning Consultancy in Ponteland, is working three days a week at BHP Develop’s office on Newcastle Quayside.

He explained: “From our clients’ perspective it’s undoubtedly a good thing that I am covering Katie’s work. She was able to brief me well before she went on maternity leave and it’s easy for me to speak to her if I have any queries.

“Likewise, she will be completely up to speed on all her cases when she comes back to work later this year.”

The couple met when they were studying for their masters in town planning at Newcastle University.

Professionally, their paths crossed again when Robin acted as a consultant to Northumberland County Council where Katie worked for seven and a half years as a planner and then senior planner in minerals, waste and development control.

They had also both previously worked in Cumbria, Katie having started her career with Allerdale District Council and Robin for Eden District Council.

Katie joined BHP Develop in May 2008 and has attracted clients for her particular expertise in dealing with new applications and extensions for sand and gravel sites, hard rock and sandstone quarries, landfill sites and waste transfer stations.

Robin is now working with the BHP Develop team led by Barney Corrigan and supported by planning solicitor Neil Carter, with whom he worked previously at South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council.

Robin added: “It’s obviously an exciting time for us as a family. As new parents of twins it’s going to be a baptism of fire but we’re really looking forward to it.”
