Eaga contracts all signed with BHP's help

Legal work to bring a new company into a landmark North East building has been completed.
The commercial property team at regional firm BHP Law has announced that contracts for its client, eaga plc, have been signed in relation to the Tower in Gosforth, Newcastle.
eaga plc has joined forces with Newcastle City Council, which owns the brand new building at the Regent Centre, to form a new venture called Real Partnership.
The company is aiming to secure £45 million worth of public sector contracts from its new base, which it has renamed Partnership House, potentially creating hundreds of new jobs in the region.
The City Council announced it was buying the nine-storey, 120,000sq ft building from Northern Rock in April for £21million.
Commercial property solicitor Sonia Hunter, a Partner at BHP Law based in Darlington, has acted on behalf of eaga on the 25-year lease of the building.
“Our work has focused on construction issues relating to the building, maximising the terms of the lease and sub-leases of parts of the building to the council and a local primary care trust, and working with the Northern Rock estate and Newcastle City Council,” said Sonia, who has been involved since April.
She added: “We are delighted that the deal is now complete. It has been a pleasure to work with Real Partnership Chairman Paul Varley and Head of Facilities Management at eaga Mark Watson. We wish the Real Partnership every success for the future.

eaga is one of the UK’s largest managed service providers with contracts including Community Legal Aid, the Digital Switchover Help Scheme and the £1.5 billion Warm Front programme in England, the cornerstone of government's target to eliminate fuel poverty.
eaga was established in Newcastle in 1990 and operates across the UK and in the Republic of Ireland, India and Canada. It employs more than 5,000 people.
BHP Law, which also has offices in Newcastle, Durham, Teesside and Halifax, has acted on a number of acquisitions for eaga including The White Horse Group in December 2006, Birmingham-based JD Heating in January 2007 and RG Francis Limited in June 2007.
