BHP Financial Team

11th Jan 2010

PEOPLE and businesses aiming to emerge from the economic slump in good financial shape have been urged to seek expert advice.

As the whole country targets a post-recession revival of fortunes, BHP Law is encouraging individuals and companies to start the new year by examining crucial money matters.

With widespread public distrust of many traditional financial institutions continuing, the leading North-East legal firm is recommending that people deal with reputable independent advisers.

Head of the financial planning team, Geoff Coulson, said that, amid the current economic uncertainty, there had never been a more important time for people to review their situation.

“In the past year or so, countless people have seen their financial positions unexpectedly turned upside down, so it makes perfect sense to take greater control of your money,” he said.

BHP Law, which has offices in Darlington, Durham, Newcastle, Teesside and Halifax, has provided a financial advice service to clients for the past 17 years and currently looks after in excess of £50million for clients.

The team offers a service tailored to people’s individual needs on a wide variety of issues, from investment and inheritance tax to life assurance and long-term care planning.

Fully authorised by the Financial Services Authority, the team is also able to liaise with lawyers and other specialists within BHP Law to create bespoke solutions for clients.

Mr Coulson added: “Planning for the future can be a minefield – for example, there are products available to boost the returns people can expect upon retirement that they would simply never know about without visiting an independent financial adviser.

“Equity release products have also become increasingly complex, but we have Sheila Storey, qualified in the team, to guide clients through this area.”
