Franchising Seminar - Newcastle

5th Oct 2009

A SEMINAR that could prove the catalyst for the launch of many new business opportunities across the North-East is set to take place.

The world of franchising will come under the spotlight on Thursday, October 15, at a major event hosted by leading regional legal firm BHP Law.

The seminar, at the company’s Newcastle office on The Quayside, will give both existing and potential franchisors a detailed insight into how the practice can generate highly successful results.

A first-class line-up of guest speakers will offer delegates expert tips and guidance on how to make the most of franchising, which has become an increasingly popular method of growing businesses in recent years.

They will discuss an array of subjects including explaining what is franchising, the benefits of franchising, the franchisor-franchisee relationship and the legal protections to put in place.

Among the speakers at the event, which is being held in association with Darlington-based The Franchise Company, will be BHP Law partner David Lucas.

Mr Lucas is renowned as a specialist on franchising issues, with much of his work in the field leading to
BHP being one of only a limited number of firms in the UK to be accredited by the British Franchise Association.

He said: “Franchising has become even more popular during the economic downturn, with many people taking the safer option of getting involved with already-established brands, rather than taking the daunting step of starting up in business from nothing and on their own.

“Our previous seminars offering an introduction to franchising have proved tremendously popular and successful in helping people explore what can be an excellent approach to business.

“For existing franchisors, there will be a wealth of advice on how they can do more to prosper and, for those considering franchising as an option we will provide strong support in how to get started.”

Other speakers will include Julie Waites, a partner in The Franchise Company, which was established in 1991 and has extensive experience both nationally and internationally.

Timon Shiner, of Property Cashpoint, which specialises in bringing together vendors and buy-to-let investors, will also explain key issues from a franchisor’s perspective.

The seminar, at Eldon Chambers, 23 The Quayside, starts at 8.30am and runs for 45 minutes.
