ONE of the world’s leading brass bands is aiming to ensure that a North East concert hits the high notes – and raises hundreds of pounds for charity.
The Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Brass Band is coming to Spennymoor, CountyDurham, in November to perform in aid of the town mayor’s charity appeal for the Butterwick Hospice.
Tickets are now available for the event, which has leading regional legal firm BHP Law among its sponsors, in the Town Hall on Saturday, November 14.
The show, organised by Spennymoor Town Band, is expected to prove extremely popular, with Carlton Main having broken into the world’s top ten rankings last year.
Established in the former mining village of South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, in 1884, the band regularly competes at regional, national and international levels.
In its illustrious history, it has claimed the titles of national and European champions, British Open champions, Granada TV Band of the Year and the BBC’s Best of Brass champions, as well as making an appearance on Top of the Pops in the 1980s.
Mayor of Spennymoor, Councillor Sarah Armstrong, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have one of the finest brass bands in the world coming to Spennymoor to perform at what should be a very special concert.
“Hopefully, as many local people as possible will come along to support the occasion and raise plenty of money for a fantastic cause in the Butterwick Hospice.”
John Pratt, managing partner of BHP Law, which has made a donation towards the costs of staging the event, said: “I am delighted that we are able to support what will be a superb concert for the whole community and we are all looking forward to the evening.”
Doors open at 6.45pm and the show begins at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8 each and are available from SpennymoorTown Hall on (01388) 815276.
