Law Firm Helps Charity Fund

19th May 2009

A CHARITY committed to enhancing the lives of disabled children and their families has been given a financial boost by a North-East law firm.

BHP Law donated £250 to the Sunshine Fund, a Newcastle-based organisation that provides essential equipment and learning aids for local youngsters.

The fund was established by King George V during a visit to Tyneside in 1928, when he made a donation to allow a group of children to spend a day at the coast.

Today, it helps to improve the quality of life for disabled children throughout the region and distributed 101 grants last year.

Its celebrity supporters include Geordie TV presenters Ant and Dec, and rugby star Rob Andrew.

BHP Law, which has offices on the Quayside in Newcastle as well as in Darlington, Durham, Teesside and Halifax, presented a cheque to the fund at a special lunch event.

BHP consultant Richard Deas said: “We have been aware for some time of the excellent work carried out by the Sunshine Fund so we are thrilled to be able to make this donation.”

Jo Harris, fund-raising manager for the Sunshine Fund, said: “The fund makes a real difference to children and their families in the region. We are delighted to have received the support of BHP and this donation is extremely welcome.”
