Legal adviser appointed by CAB
2nd Oct 2007
The trustees of the City of Durham Citizens’ Advice Bureau have appointed a new legal adviser.
Ann Owens, a senior family solicitor with Blackett Hart & Pratt, will provide free legal advice to the CAB board.
As well as giving her time to attend trustee meetings, Ann will draw on expertise within the firm to advise on issues ranging from employment contracts to the CAB’s leased premises in Durham’s Market Place.
Ann, who has been a solicitor for 13 years, has worked as a senior family solicitor with Blackett Hart & Pratt for four years and is based at the firm’s Belmont office.
She explained: “The CAB has volunteer and trained specialist advisers to provide advice to the general public. However, my role is to advise the trustees and the board chairman.
“I am very much in favour of the CAB, it does a fantastic job. As a charity they can’t ask for money and rely on donations and grants from local government. It’s important that professional advisers give their time to support the work that the organisation does in Durham.”
Patrick Conway, chair of Durham CAB trustee board, added: “We are delighted that Ann has accepted the role of honorary legal adviser to the trustee board and in welcoming her we also thank and pay tribute to Kathryn Cooper, who was our former adviser for a number of years.
“The CAB is a voluntary effort numbering around 40 people who generously give their time to the cause of providing impartial advice and information to the people of the City of Durham.”
