Terry Hamer

Terry heads up one of the largest teams in BHP Law. The team has extensive experience in all areas of matrimonial law and in particular boasts specialists in areas of divorce, child law, mediation, and conciliation and private law proceedings.

Terry has been one of the main litigators within BHP Law for a number of years and indeed, prior to that with his previous firm of Walton Hardy & Clough in Darlington.

Terry has many years of litigation experience in all courts including the High Court, County Court, Magistrates’ Court and various tribunals including the Child Support Agency.

Terry prides himself in being able to litigate in most cases without the use of Counsel but, where necessary Counsel are used sparingly and in appropriate cases.

High value and complicated divorce issues are well within Terry’s capabilities and clients quite often find a solicitor who will see them to the end including Court advocacy a real advantage.

Although Terry’s opportunity to provide assistance in publicly funding cases is limited the firm has stayed committed to providing public funded (legal aid) services which is due in no small part to Terry’s commitment from his position at partnership level, in the way we ensure that those people in most need of assistance can get it whether they are able to provide funding or, need financial assistance.

As an experienced litigator Terry also heads up the Criminal Department of BHP Law and quite often takes up the challenge of some quite often complicated “white collar crime” such as proceedings by the Environment Agency, Trading Standards and Health & Safety.
