BHP Home Durham Launch
9th Nov 2009
GROWING confidence in the housing market has prompted an estate agency to take the bold step of opening a new branch in Durham City.
BHP Home has so many properties on its books and a growing number of interested buyers, landlords and tenants that it has opened a sales and lettings office on Claypath.
The branch will provide a one-stop shop for clients, who can draw on the advice of BHP Law’s legal team and financial advisers while buying or selling through the sales office.
BHP Home Durham has launched this week with incentives including free press advertising and free conveyancing, excluding disbursements, on sales where BHP provides legal advice.
Alison Sykes, sales director of BHP Home, explained: “We have been servicing Durham from our North Shields branch for some time but we feel this is the right time to bring our expertise into the city. We’ve had these premises for a while and the fact that we’re opening now is a sign of our belief that the market has turned a corner.
“We feel very positive and enthusiastic about the property market in Durham, where prices have held up much better than other parts of the country but where there are still good deals to be had.
“Our aim is to bring a fresh, proactive approach, to look at sellers’ properties in a new light and to encourage purchasers that there has rarely been a better time to buy.
“Being a one-stop shop cuts the risk of error and things going wrong because BHP staff can make much easier contact with each other. However, if clients prefer to use their own solicitor then that is not a problem.”
A new team has been appointed to run the office, sales manager Ashley Fenwick and sales consultant Carolyn Stonehouse, who both have many years’ experience in property sales.
Mrs Sykes, who will continue to do valuations, added that an improving mortgage market and price savings were good news for buyers, while the office could offer guidance to sellers on how best to present their properties.
She said: “There has never been a better time to negotiate if you’re buying; it’s about having the confidence to take that step.
“We will also work with sellers to keep them motivated and make them realise that there are many reasons to be optimistic about finding a buyer.”
Raymond Blake, managing director of BHP Home, will lead the lettings team, which already has a large managed portfolio of rental properties.
The company is a member of the National Association of Estate Agents and the Ombudsman scheme for estate agents.
Once Durham is established, BHP Home is aiming to expand elsewhere in County Durham and the Tees Valley.
* BHP Home is at 90 Claypath and is open Monday-Friday 9am-5.30pm and on Saturdays from 9am-4pm.
