DePuy ASR Hip Recall

7th Feb 2012

In August 2010 DePuy Orthopaedics recalled the ASR Hip Replacement and Hip Resurfacing System.

This was a metal on metal artificial joint. It was recalled because an unacceptably high number of patients required revision surgery within 5 years of having the original surgery. There are now concerns that as the metal parts of the joint wear, they are releasing small particles of metal (cobalt and chromium) into the blood stream, which is causing damage to surrounding tissues.

Patients have experienced a variety of symptoms including:

-                 Pain
-                 Swelling
-                 Reduced mobility
-                 Loss of feeling in their legs
-                 Clicking, squeaking, or other noises from the hip joint

If you have had a hip replacement since 2003 and are not sure whether you have been given the DePuy ASR system you should contact your GP. If you have received the DePuy ASR system you should have received a letter asking you to attend for review.

We are already acting for clients in the North of England who have suffered as a result of receiving a DePuy hip replacement. Claims are being brought under the Consumer Protection Act 1987. We have considerable experience of bringing such claims on behalf of a large number of people, as we were the Lead Solicitors in the landmark Consumer Protection Act case of A and Others –v- National Blood Authority, in which we acted on behalf of over 100 Claimants in a successful Group Action.

If you have received the DePuy ASR hip and would like further information about the possibility of pursuing a claim for compensation please click “Start your claim” and send us your details, alternatively telephone 0800 590 019 (freephone) and ask to speak to Paul Saxon.

There are time limits that apply to bringing claims for compensation so please contact us without delay. There is no obligation, no fee for contacting us and we take suitable cases on a “no win no fee” basis.
