Proposals to Introduce New Systems for Child Maintenance

7th Feb 2011

The Department for Work and Pensions have issued a consultation paper which includes proposals to introduce a new system for the collection of child maintenance which will encourage parents to reach agreement between themselves.

Under the proposed system, parents will be able to get initial help and information free of charge for them to make a decision as to whether they can make their own arrangements or need to use the statutory service.

If using the statutory service there would be a charge of around £100.00. If on benefits, the fee would be £50.00, of which £20.00 will be paid upfront ad the remainder in installments.
