Paul Hargreaves

Paul joined BHP in 2007 and was appointed an Associate in 2011. His main specialism is in employment law an area which he has practised since he qualified as a solicitor in 2001. Paul also specialises in other areas of litigation and dispute resolution.

Prior to joining BHP Paul practiced with Patterson Glenton & Stracey in South Tyneside where he established and built up the firms employment practice.

Paul represents a wide range of clients on both a commercial and private basis.

He has represented a number of employers ranging from PLC's and large manufacturing employers to professional practices and small businesseson both contentious and non contentious issues.

He has wide experience in advising on matters such as senior appointments, business reorganisations and redundancy, business protection and restrictive covenants, disciplinary and grievances as well as providing general advice on the variety of employment issues which affect employers on a day to day basis.

Paul has successfully represented numerous Employers defend claims such as unfair dismissal, discrimination and breach of contract. Paul has reguarly appeared before the Employment Tribunal but is a keen advocate of working with Clients to resolve issues before they result in more formal legal proceedings.

Paul also has a wealth of experience in representing employee clients in relation to contract or compromise agreement negotions and in disputes with their employer which result in Employment Tribunal or Court proceedings.

Paul has acted for employees in both the Private and Public Sector and has represented senior employees including Managing Directors, University Vice Chancellors and Head Teachers. His personal and pragmatic style is widely appreciated by his Clients.

Paul is married with one daughter and is a keen fellwalker. He also enjoys squash, spinning and circuit exercises and watching rugby.
