26th Oct 2007
North East law firm Blackett Hart & Pratt is nurturing young talent to increase its expertise in the specialist area of corporate recovery.
Earlier this year the firm appointed internationally renowned lawyer and corporate recovery partner Graham Ridler.
Now 27-year-old Paul Monaghan has joined the firm as an executive in the department to increase the service offered in personal bankruptcies, company insolvencies and to businesses that need help on financial matters.
BHP acts on behalf of individuals, companies, banks and other financial institutions and creditors with a stake in businesses in liquidation.
Paul, who comes from Whickham, graduated in English language and linguistic science at York University and completed a masters at Edinburgh with some time spent researching in Bermuda.
After completing the legal practice course, he worked in the criminal department at Tilley, Bailey and Irvine in Hartlepool then joined Gannons in London, specialising in corporate law and commercial litigation.
Paul, who boxed at light middleweight for Edinburgh University, said: “For someone like me who has chosen law as a career and has 18 months’ experience it’s great to be joining a firm like BHP, which is large and growing but where experienced partners are still keen to help you and pass on their expertise.
“The experience I have in corporate law and in litigation and court appearances come together in corporate recovery so it’s the ideal specialism to be working in.”
